OUR PHILOSOPHY

Learning the language of music goes beyond just playing the piano.

Similar to how children learn a spoken language—beginning with sounds and letters, forming words, and then making sentences—Bemish Green Piano Studio employs these principles to help students express themselves through the piano. Each student learns at their own pace and in their preferred learning style.

Edward’s unique and thorough teaching approach allows students to explore and understand multiple genres, such as classical, jazz, blues, pop, rock, new age, and more. Edward’s extensive knowledge of pianists and genres enriches his students’ repertoire and deepens their understanding of the language of music.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Costs and Payments

Are there any other costs in addition to tuition?

When a student begins, we have music books, metronomes, and other materials available for purchase. Also, we recommend having your piano tuned at least once a year and can recommend reputable tuners in your area who provide this service.

Once a student has shown some good practice habits they will be introduced to two online applications to complement their practice.

    Lessons/Enrollment

What can I expect in my classes?

Piano classes will cover all aspects of a “sound education”.  Each student will be instructed in the geography of the keyboard, how to play music with optimal sound and comfort (technique), how to listen and enjoy the music genre of their choice, as well as some of the music history behind the genre they like best.

    Where are the lessons held?

In-studio lessons are held at 188 Central St.  Online/Remote lessons are available as well.

    Who will the instructor be?

Edward Bemish is the primary instructor.

How will I know my child is ready to begin lessons?

Students are ready for lessons when they can recognize their letters and numbers and focus for at least a 30-minute lesson.

How often do you recommend taking lessons?

The most efficient progress is made by taking weekly lessons, our most economical plans are based on weekly lessons.  We do understand that schedules and study habits differ and offer plans with more flexibility.

May I attend my child's lessons?

Yes, parents may attend lessons, especially with younger children the presence of a parent can help with practice at home. Once the student is comfortable typically it’s best to wait nearby.

    Is there homework?

Each week the student will be given instruction and guidance about what to practice and a recommended amount of time to practice.  Initially, students will use a piano handbook to track their practice.  Once the student has developed a routine and is ready to take ownership of their practice an application will be introduced to enhance their tracking and communication with the instructor.

How much time should be spent practicing?

Practice time suggestions are based on the student and their age.  For primary students 10-15 minutes 3-5 times a week is a good start. Children 7-10 can practice up to 30 minutes 3 times a week.  You are paying for piano lessons, and investing in your child’s future. Without practicing at home, your child will be making minimal progress.

Can a digital keyboard serve in place of an acoustic piano?

Certainly. We recommend a keyboard with touch-sensitive keys placed at a height that the student can place their feet flat on the floor or footstool.
