Growing up in a musical household, Edward’s natural talent began to emerge at a very young age. Surrounded by music, with his father, a former trumpeter turned amateur pianist, his mother with childhood piano lessons, his sister starting piano lessons, and his brother learning trumpet, Edward was fully immersed in a musical environment. By the age of four, he was already composing songs and experimenting with piano improvisation. Influenced by his family, his passion for music laid the foundation for his future as a published composer, accomplished musician, and highly sought-after piano teacher.
Over the next ten years, he diligently taught himself to play hundreds of works, including music by some of his favorite icons such as Ludwig van Beethoven and Billy Joel. At 14, Edward decided to pursue a career in music, and in 1993, at just 15 years old, he purchased a digital piano and landed his first paid performance, marking the start of his successful journey as a professional performing artist.
Although he had been composing and improvising since childhood, Edward lacked the ability to read music. Realizing the importance of formal education to progress further, he began private piano lessons at age 17. Within a short time, he began sharing his newly acquired knowledge with his peers as a piano teacher. At 18, he also began copyrighting several of his original compositions, which were performed publicly.
After high school, Edward earned a partial scholarship at Berklee College of Music through a successful audition, studying with blues and jazz pianist Bruce Katz. Subsequently, as a seminarian in New York City, Edward served in the positions of pianist and vocalist for several churches throughout the Tri-state area. Transitioning from St. John’s University, he continued his studies in jazz and classical music at the University of Massachusetts Lowell with Professor Anthony Mele, focusing his studies on music education.
In 2001, at 23 years old, Edward established Bemish Green Piano Studio, and has since provided tens of thousands of lessons to date. He has mentored students of all ages and skill levels, with some progressing to become professional teachers and performers. Teaching is not just a job for Edward; it is his vocation and passion.
In addition to teaching, Edward has over 30 years of experience as a professional performer, captivating audiences across New England and New York. He has collaborated with multiple bands throughout his career, ultimately forming his own band comprising former students. Edward is held in high regard and continues to earn the respect and admiration from his students, colleagues, and audiences.
At 56 I figured it was time to venture into the unknown and learn something new, playing the piano. I have always wanted to play an instrument and learn how to read music. Edward has done an outstanding job. He has the ability to share his skill and expertise in a manner that is understandable, informative and enjoyable. I am grateful for his ability to communicate something completely intangible to me in such a way that that the information is retained. I am excited to be learning this new language and very pleased with my progress to date. Edward incorporates piano history into each lesson and that affords me the opportunity to learn more. The instruction is more than notes and keystrokes. Edward is a true professional that has never lost sight of the importance of sharing ones gifts and talents. After a few short months I am more than pleased with the results. I highly recommend Bemish Green Piano!
I've been working with Edward for the last two years getting back to the piano that had been in hiatus for twenty odd years. I have some music background but working with Edward is helping me fill in the gaps and improve my total understanding of what it takes to make/play good music.
This is our first year working with Edward, and we have been incredibly pleased. Edward prepares thoughtful lessons that challenge our daughter but also make playing the piano fun. Students receive a complete musical education when working with Edward, and his ability to motivate is impressive. Our daughter went from practicing 10 minutes a day to practicing for over 30 minutes with relative ease. She has progressed rapidly due to Edward's teaching style. Edward's passion for music shows in each lesson, and we recommend him to aspiring musicians of all levels.
